What causes settlement?
Weak or compressible layers, inadequately compacted fill and changes in moisture from leaks or nearby works can all contribute. Uneven settlement may show up as floor level changes, widening cracks or doors that start to bind.
How is it investigated?
We review the building history, foundation drawings and signs of water ingress. A site inspection may be followed by level measurements, monitoring or geotechnical investigation. Ground-penetrating radar is optional when it can help answer a specific site question.
What treatment options are available?
Options may include correcting the source of water, targeted soil grouting, or foundation support designed for the site. The cause and extent of movement guide the selection. Request a site inspection if cracks are widening or floor levels have changed. Seek urgent structural assessment if movement appears rapid or safety is in doubt.
